In modern society, more and more people suffer from sleep problems. The most easily ignored of sleep breathing disorder problems is snoring. In order to better solve sleep problems and provide more professional medical care for sleep apnea disorder, The Sixth Affiliated Hospital set out to build CSDB in October 2012, which is a large-scaled medical center with advanced equipment and comprehensive technique in Asia.
CSDB now has 14 sleep monitoring rooms, 26 PSG (Polysomnography), including the most advanced Australian GRAEL 76 guide lines PSG and the SLESTA wireless remote sensing PSG, the American Philips Alice5 PSG and PDX portable PSG, pulse oximeter and many advanced equipments, such as the British GM Clinical Acoustic Rhinometer, Apnea Graph, low-temperature plasma radiofrequency Coblator, STORZ high definition endoscopic surgery system, Medtronic IPC surgical power system, etc.
CSDB applies most advanced technology of diagnosis and treatment of the world, and the newest patent minimally invasive surgery "soft palate-supported surgery and advance tongue suspension surgery” to treat snoring and OSAHS (Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome) for those people who get respiratory disturbance during sleep, providing for them high quality, efficient, safe and normative medical service.
Professor Zhang Xiangmin, Director of CSDB, chief physician, who was the former deputy head of otolaryngological hospital under The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen Uuniversity, has engaged in clinical teaching and scientific research on otolaryngology head and neck surgery for over 30 years. Professor Zhang was awarded by the Ministry of Health the title of “National Advanced Worker in the Construction of Medical Civilization” and granted by the State Council “the Special Allowance for Experts”.
At present, CSDB has a group of first-class specialists, including E.N.T physicians, doctors of traditional Chinese medicine, neurologists, etc. and well-trained technicians specialized in tackling sleep problems. A number of experts of related disciplines well-known both domestically and abroad are employed, and in the future more of such specialists will be enrolled so that an advanced sleep center of international fame will come into being. In order to enhance the level of diagnosis and treatment, CSDB will organize a sleep medical research institute with cooperation from the Biomedical Engineering Department of Sun Yat-sen University for in-depth study and practice from basic learning to clinical practice.
