The day before yesterday, the Final of the 4th National Medical College Students Clinical Skills Competition, hosted by the Clinical Teaching and Research Center for Medical Education of the Ministry of Education and undertaken by Central South University, concluded in Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University. 168 contestants from 42 colleges and universities took part in the fierce competition. At last, the team of Sun Yat-sen University won the grand prize with the highest total score in the Final. This is the third time for SYSU to win grand prize in the Final, therefore, realizing the goal of “three consecutive championships” in its history of participation in the competition.
It is learned that the Final of this year’s competition covers 128 clinical skills and relevant knowledge points in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Otorhinolaryngology, Pathology, Medical Imaging, etc, with the aim to improve medical students’ clinical thinking and operating skills, promote teaching with competition and enhance the development of medical education. The SYSU team is led by Xiao Haipeng, Director of the Dean’s Office of Medical Education, supervised by Professor Wang Tinghuai and Professor Liang Lijian, National Distinguished Teachers, and guided by several clinical doctors. Six students, who were enrolled in 2008 in the five-year program of Clinical Medicine, took part in the competition.
