The award ceremony of 2012 ”Guangdong News-Focus People Top 10” was held at GDTV on the evening of March 22nd. Academician Zeng Yixin from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center won the award.

At the award ceremony, the organizing committee described Academician Zeng Yixin as such: “Since the age of Hippocrates, the famous doctor in ancient Greece, man has searched for cures for cancer, just like searching for the starlight of heaven in the darkness of hell. Every person that has made contributions is the morning light above the horizon which opens the eyes of life. Academician Zeng Yixin lightens the hope for nasopharynx cancer patients with the torch of science, and mounts the stairs of innovation up to the highest podium of Guangdong science and technology award.”

The selection activity of “Guangdong News-Focus People Top 10” is co-hosted by Guangdong Branch of Xinhua News Agency, Nanfang Media Group and Southern Media Corporation. Votes for the candidates are collected from the general public and the most representative and inspiring news figures are finally decided by the judging panel consisting of media persons, professionals and social celebrities. The activity is aimed to set a good example of being keen on reform, positive and aspirant, and eager to repay the society in Guangdong Province and even nationwide through the “positive energy” of elected candidates.
