On the morning of March 2, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center held a public welfare activity on prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment of breast cancer and cervical cancer in Shamian Park, Guangzhou, to celebrate the 103rd anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8. Secretary Li Jianchao gave a speech on behalf of the Cancer Center. Zhou Liqiong, Executive Vice President of the Women’s Federation of Guangdong Province, and Yu Yanhong, Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology Branch, Guangdong Medical Association, attended the opening ceremony. Professor Yang Mingtian, chief expert in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Cancer Center, and Professor Liu Jihong, chief expert in cervical cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Cancer Center, introduced the latest progress in treating these two diseases and provided tips on prevention.

The popular science exhibition
After the opening ceremony, the free diagnosis and consultation activity and the popular science exhibition on prevention and treatment of breast cancer and cervical cancer were held simultaneously. During the event nearly a hundred women took the screening test for breast cancer and cervical cancer and received free diagnosis and consultation. With support from the Sub-district Office of Shamian, the Cancer Center also chose 80 laid-off women from the neighborhood in advance, and from those who came for consultation that day, chose 20 women with low income, who were laid off, or enjoy the minimum living guarantee, or came to work in the city from poor rural areas, and provided them with free HPV and TCT test worth 600-yuan.
