Qu LIANG from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Visited Zhongshan School of Medicine

On  February 17, 2013, just right after the Chinese Spring Festival, with the invitation from Dr Zhiyong XI, Director of Sun Yat-sen University - Michigan State University Joint Center of Vector Control for Tropical Disease, Qu LIANG, Director of Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, accompanied by Jionglie HUANG, Director of Bureau of Health of Guangzhou Municipality, visited Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University. Mengfeng LI, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, Minghai WEI, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, Wenhua LING, Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, Zhongdao WU, Deputy Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, Shengping CHEN, Deputy Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, met with the guest.

During the meeting, Dr Xiaoying ZHENG from Sun Yat-sen University - Michigan State University Joint Center of Vector Control for Tropical Disease gave a presentation on the progress of the research in ‘development and application of Wolbachia as a microbial pesticide and blocker of insect-borne disease transmission”. Qu LIANG provided some constructive comments on the research project and gave a brief introduction to IAEA.

Both sides had an in-depth discussion on the prospects of cooperation between Sun Yat-sen University and IAEA, and expressed the intention of future cooperation. Qu LIANG also visited Clinical Skills Training Center, Museum of Medical Specimen and SYSU-MSU Joint Center of Vector Control for Tropical Disease. At present, the Joint Center of Vector Control has started cooperation with the Insect Pest Control Laboratory of International Atomic Energy Agency such as exchange visits of researchers.
