Three students from Sun Yat-sen University created the short film Letters as Bridges, capturing the dynamic development and cultural ties of the Greater Bay Area.
Letters as Bridges was co-created by three students from the School of Journalism and Communication—He Jiale, Meng Yuetong, and Li Yitong. The film, shot in a vertical format, tells the story of two pen pals separated by Macau and Hengqin, who form a bond through letters and begin exploring each other’ s scenes of life. Their journeys ultimately lead them to meet at Hengqin Port, a symbol of deep connection.
During the creative process, the three students shuttled between Macau’s historic districts and Hengqin’s fast-developing areas, observing the rich heritage of Macau and the vibrant innovation of Hengqin with a keen eye.The film centers on the image of the “bridge”, which serves as both a literal and metaphorical link — connecting spaces, hearts, and cultures.
More than a display of professional skill, this work embodies the SYSUers’ dedication to documenting social change and sharing meaningful Chinese stories through the lens. It highlights the diverse ways SYSUers engage with the development of the Greater Bay Area and contribute to its growth.
