The delegation from Johns Hopkins University visited SYSU

Recently, a delegation led by Dr. Paul Rothman, Dean of the Medical Faculty, vice president for medicine of The Johns Hopkins University (JHU), and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the JHU delegation also included Prof. Adrian Dobs, director of Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network and JHU-SYSU Collaboration, and Vice-Chair for Faculty Development of Johns Hopkins Medicine, Ms. Pamela Paulk, CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI), and Mr. Sanford Wu, managing director of JHI.

During the visit, an academic seminar was held on North Campus with the aim to strengthen the two academic institutions’ collaboration in phase II. Prof. Li Mengfeng, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, attended the seminar.

In the seminar, Dr. Paul Rothman and Prof. Adrian Dobs delivered keynote speeches entitled “Future of Medicine: The Next Twenty Years” and “Phase I Accomplishments and Phases II Aspirations” respectively. The seminar also invited Ms. Ge Jieying from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, who was sent to study at JHU through the SYSU-JHU Collaboration Program, to share her studying experience in the world’s top university.

 
Panel discussion
 
The panel discussion mainly focused on three topics related to the trend of today’s medical development: internationalization, ethical conduct of research and IT infrastructure. Experts from SYSU were invited to share their experience and ideas on the above topics. The panel discussion provided experts from both JHU and SYSU with an opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts from diverse perspectives.
