On January 16, 2015, the award ceremony of the 11th Chinese Young Women in Science Fellowship was held in Beijing, rewarding 10 female scientists from 6 universities and 4 scientific research institutes. Prof. Jia Weihua, a researcher at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, is the first scientist from Sun Yat-sen University to receive this honor.
Prof. Jia Weihua receives the award from Prof. Wei Yu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Prof. Jia is dedicated to tumor genetic, genomic and molecular epidemic research, especially molecular and genetic epidemic research of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. To date, her group has published more than 90 SCI papers in renowned international journals such as Nature Genetics, JNCI and Cancer Research.
Prof. Jia Weihua
The Chinese Young Women in Science Fellowship, jointly set up by All-China Women's Federation, China Association for Science and Technology, National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO, and L'Oreal China, is known as the "Nobel Prize" for Chinese young women scientists. It honors young women scientists who have made significant and innovative achievements in the fields of basic and life sciences. The annual award is granted to no more than ten recipients a year. This year’s evaluation committee consisted of 41 academicians and experts. A total of 111 units and 22 experts nominated 183 effective candidates.
