Professor Qingjiong ZHANG of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center elected as member of AMPC of ARVO

On May 7, at the annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) in Seattle, the election results of the Annual Meeting Program Committee (AMPC) were released. Professor Qingjiong ZHANG  from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University was elected as a member of AMPC, the first scholar from China elected into the committee in the past 30 years. Every year each section of the ARVO will elect a candidate as member of AMPC through nomination and vote by all members, and the term is three years. This year, six candidates from the U.S., the U.K. and China were nominated by the Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Section.

Founded in 1928, ARVO is the largest and most respected eye and vision research organization in the world, the members of which include more than 12,750 researchers from over 80 countries. It has 13 Scientific Sections and is managed by the Board of Trustees and 14 ARVO committees. The Board of Trustees and AMPC are elected by voting members. ARVO encourages and assists research, training, publication, and dissemination of knowledge in vision and ophthalmology through hosting the ARVO annual meeting and other conferences, establishing internationally renowned awards, issuing three journals (including IOVS, the most prestigious journal in the field), and setting up research funds and travel grants, etc.
